Servorgear Pitch propellar blades

Pitch Propeller Blades

Servogear Controllable Pitch Propeller (CPP) blades are ideal for vessels operating under varying load and speed conditions. Pitch actuation is performed through a mechanical connection from the propeller blades to a hydraulic actuation system inside the gearbox. This is a simple and robust solution, which requires minimal maintenance work.

Propeller Design Series:

Original Propellers:

The Servogear controllable pitch propeller blades (CPP) is a thoroughly tested and proven design, with both hubs and blades made of strong and durable NiAIBz material.

Comfort Class Propellers:

Comfort is a key factor for successful passenger transportation. In 2016 we introduced a new design, developed to reduce noise and vibrations for passenger vessels, while maintaining the same levels of efficiency as our original propeller design.

Customer Testimonials

In 2016 we undertook a number of refit projects, replacing traditional Servogear propellers with the new Comfort Class Propellers:

What has been acheived with the the new Comfort Class propellers, is by us considered as the biggest step forward the last 20 years for propellers used in high speed vessels. This creates new opportunities and a new standard. The increased comfort is significant, and comparable with the targeted propulsion system.

We have changed to the Comfort Class Propeller on two of our vessels so far, with great results. Increased comfort for our passengers, while maintaining the well known fuel efficiency rates of Servogear CPP is higly appreciated. On Rygerfonn, being the first vessel where we could document the before and after situation, performance is very good. We are planning to upgrade two more vessels

Feathering Position

Servogear controllable pitch propellers have feathering position capabilities (also known as sailing position). This feature can be used by yachts to minimize resistance and speed loss while sailing, or by multi-screw motor vessels for special operational conditions. This reduces the drag, resulting in a significantly improved fuel economy in transit/steam.

Super Slow Running Propeller

Servogear has developed its controllable pitch propeller design from medium-running to super-slow-running propellers.
This has been made possible by our propeller tunnel design.

Advantages achieved:

  • Very low surface pressure on the propeller blades, resulting in considerably less pressure induced impulses to the hull (reduced vibrations and noise).
  • Higher efficiency due to lower rpm, larger diameter, and reduced blade area ratio.
  • Less sensitive to speed variations caused by different loads and/or weather conditions.
  • Better manoeuvrability. The propeller thrust increases in accordance with the diameter square.
  • Very short stopping length, from full ahead to full stop (important safety factor).
  • Improved acceleration to full speed without overloading the engines.
